The Fluidride Enduro DH Series

This series encompasses 5 individual race days falling into 2 official “Enduro”races. – Enduro racing encompasses 2 or more races over a weekend and winners are determined by the lowest cumulative time over the weekend. The winner of the series will be decided by the lowest cumulative time over the 5 stages (2 races) in the series. The Fluidride Cup Enduro DH Series is run, timed, and managed by Hurricane Racing’s Petr Kakes. Fluidride sponsors and help Hurricane organize this series, but is not the actual promoter.

For each race we are limiting Amateurs to 150 riders. Pro is unlimited.

Fluidride Enduro DH #1:

Dates/Location: April 30-May 2, Dog River, Near Hood River OR – 2Day/Race Enduro

Track Description: The Dog River course is nearly 100% single track with some climbing, and lots of descending. This is a perfect track for an all mountain bike with 4-6″ of travel, and could even be ridden on a hardtail. This is perhaps the best venue for new riders, and riders looking to combine the rush of DH racing with the endurance necessary to compete over 2 days. There are no large jumps, drops or highly technical features on the course. This is the only event in the series where full faced helmets are NOT required. Dog River is approximately 17 miles southeast of Hood River. The ground is made up of mostly decomposed granite, which drains well after rain. The track depending on variations used is about 15 minutes in length at race speed. We will be using this same track on both Saturday and Sunday, with times added together. Winners are decided by the fastest cumulative time over 2 days.

Practice/Race Schedule:

  • Friday (PRACTICE) – Friday track opens (self shuttled – course marked by 1pm). The track will be open all day. We’ll likely be out there all day to help riders find their way to the top. Registration from 1pm-6pm.
  • Saturday (PRACTICE/STAGE 1): Practice (Shuttles Supplied) from 9am-1pm with Stage #1 starting at 2pm. Registration from 8am-12:30pm.
  • Sunday (PRACTICE/STAGE 2): Practice from 9am-10:30 (Shuttles Supplied) with Stage #2 at 11:30am – awards following Sunday’s race. Lowest combined time wins.

More Info: The Dog River race is the first of two races in our Fluidride Cup Enduro DH Series. The series also includes the Mt Hood 3 Day Enduro DH September 9-12. Winners of the series will be decided by the lowest cumulative time over the 5 total stages at the two races. The Mt Hood 3 Day Enduro (Sept 9-12) will be a longer and more technical series of tracks, with almost no climbing involved. Riders will be required to wear a full faced helmet at Mt Hood. We will have a minimum cash purse of $300 for Men’s Pro 1st place and $200 for Women’s Pro 1st Place at each weekend’s event, with payouts 10 deep for men, and 3 deep for the fastest women. The purses will be for the winner of the weekend, not for each individual stage. This is going to be a fun weekend of ripping some great NW single track!

Fluidride Enduro DH #2:

Dates/Location: September 9-12 – Mt. Hood, OR – 3 Day/Race Enduro

Track Description: This is going to be a really special event which will combine elements of Super D and DH style racing together into one long and challenging weekend of riding.

Practice and Racing Schedule:

  • Thursday – (PRACTICE) – self shuttled – course marked. The race 1 and race 2 tracks will be open all day. We’ll likely be out there all day to help riders find their way to the top.
  • Friday(PRACTICE/STAGE 1) – Registration from 9am-2pm at Ski Bowl. Practice for both stage 1 and stage 2 courses open from 9am-2pm. Racing Starts at 3pm. We’ll start at the top of Magic Mile chair above Timberline lodge at just over 7,000 feet and descend to the 3,000 foot level, ending at the top of 39 road. This is a screaming fast run, with winning times around 20 minutes. There are no real climbs but there is some pedaling required to get a fast time.
  • Saturday - (PRACTICE/STAGE 2) – Racing starts at 11am, giving riders time to do a warm up run prior to racing. We’ll be racing the middle 10 minutes of the same track from stage 1, and will end near Government Camp with a post race party at the Ratskeler in Government Camp. There is virtually no pedaling needed on this track, but fitness is key. Riders will drop over 2,300 feet in about 10 minutes. There is no formal practice for Sunday’s stage on Saturday. Practice for the Ski Bowl Track (Free lifts!) is Sunday morning from 9-11am.
  • Sunday – (STAGE 3) – Practice from 9-11 (FREE LIFTS COURTESY OF HURRICANE RACING), again giving riders time to get a warm up run in before racing starts at 12. All categories will ride the same track, which will be a mixture of Ski Bowl trails.

RequirementsFULL FACED HELMETS REQUIRED FOR ALL STAGES. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD. Riders are required to run the same frame and fork for each stage of this event, so choose your bike wisely. Last year the long course was won on a 6″ travel bike by Nathan Riddle. DH bikes took 2nd, and 4th, so it was pretty close. Ski Bowl’s track favors true DH bikes, but this stage only accounts for about 5 minutes of the approximately 35 minutes of racing over 3 days. Riders are welcome to use various tire/tube and parts combos for each day to get their fastest times. The lowest cumulative time over the 3 day event will decide the winner. The winner of the series will have the lowest cumulative time after adding these three stages, plus the two Dog River stages from race #1 together. There is a minimum $30o first place prize purse for Pro Men, and $200 for Pro Women. Self shuttled practice will open on Thursday, with shuttles provided for practice and racing on Friday. There will be approximately 4 hours of practice provided Friday before Stage 1 commences. Shuttles will once again be provided for Saturday’s practice and racing. There will be a small lift fee for lift services at each venue. Exact prices to be posted soon. We appreciate your patience in our getting you all the info you will need. Keep in mind that this whole series is put on by only a few dedicated individuals, and is powered by passion and not money. Big thanks go out to Hurricane Racing for making these races happen, and to IPG (Integrated Project Group) for their generous donation of time and effort to keep our online presence strong. If you run into Petr or any of the guys from Hurricane, or if you see Lindsey Harper from IPG tearing up the tracks, be sure to let them know we are grateful for their help in keeping racing going in the NW!

Registration: will be from 9am-6pm Friday May 28 in the GLC restaurant next to the Fitzsimmons Lift. Registration will go from 8:30am – 4pm on Saturday. Discounted tickets are available with proof of registration. Tickets are $39/day for Friday and Saturday and $11 for Sunday.

Saturday Practice Times: Pro/Cat 1 10am-4:15pm, with Pro and Cat 1 Juniors Qualifying at 4:30. Cat 2/3 Practice is from 10am-5pm.

Qualifier: Pro and Cat 1 Juniors will qualify on Saturday afternoon at 4:30pm.

These trails will be closed to the non racing public during official practice times. Racers are welcome to practice these trails even during non practice times, since the mountain will be open. This means you can practice as much as you like. Special rate lift passes ($39/day for Friday and Saturday and $11 for Sunday) are good on the whole mountain from 10-5, so you can ride any open trail, as well as the race courses.

Race Day (Sunday the 30th): Lifts open at 10, with racing starting at 11am for Category 2/3 racers. Pro and Cat 1 Racing will begin at approximately 1:30. Look for exact times to be posted in the GLC restaurant Saturday evening after registration and qualifying end. There will be a 30 minute break between Cat 2/3 racing and Pro/Cat 1 racing in order to give us time to move timing equipment at the top of the hill.

We are offering a minimum Pro Purse of $500 for 1st place in the Pro Men’s category and $300 for 1st place in the Pro Women’s Category. Cash awards will go 10 deep for Men and at least 3 deep for Women.

For the Whistler event the minimum age is 13.  Racing age is figured  as of Dec. 31 of 2010, and not your current age.

Additional Whistler Info: In addition to the above costs for registration, all riders not holding a UCI International License (Pro’s) or BCC License will be required to purchase a one day BCC (British Columbia Cycling) license. Cost is $10 for all riders 17 and over, and $5 for riders under 17 and covers you for the racing weekend. Going through the BCC was the only way we could get this race to happen. This also means there will be no USA cycling points awarded at this race, since it takes place outside the US. Normal FR Cup points will be awarded. This is the first race in the series, but keep in mind that the best 3 results for the year decide the Champions of each category, so if you can’t make round #1 in Whistler, you can still win the series! Two races other than the finals may be dropped for your overall ranking. As with all our races, there is a $10 late fee for riders not registering online by midnight on Wednesday preceding each event. There is a $4 fee to register online. Online registration helps us organize the series with the small staff we have making these races happen, so help us out by registering in advance. There are no refunds available after you have registered. Again, we appreciate your understanding the need for these policies in order for us to continue creating great races with minimal resources. Thanks go out to Whistler Mountain Bike Park,  the BCC, all our sponsors, and all the racers for making this Whistler race a reality!
